How To Help
Please send the following letter to your Elected Official
Dear [Congressman/Congresswoman],
I am writing to express my strong support for increasing breast cancer legislation at the federal level. As you may already know, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women, and despite significant progress made in the past decade, there is still much work to be done.
Breast cancer affects not only the physical health of individuals, but also their emotional and financial well-being. It can lead to significant medical expenses, lost wages, and even bankruptcy. In addition, there are many disparities in access to breast cancer screening, treatment, and support services, which can disproportionately impact low-income individuals and minorities.
I urge you to support legislation that would increase funding for breast cancer research, expand access to affordable screening and treatment options, and improve support services for breast cancer survivors. In particular, I believe that legislation should prioritize:
Research funding: More research is needed to better understand the causes of breast cancer and to develop more effective treatments. This will require increased funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Early detection and screening: Access to mammograms and other forms of early detection is critical to catching breast cancer early and improving survival rates. Legislation should ensure that all women have access to affordable screening options, regardless of their income or insurance status.
Treatment options: Breast cancer treatment can be expensive, and many patients struggle to afford it. Legislation should increase funding for programs that provide financial assistance to patients and families, and it should also encourage the development of more affordable treatment options.
Support services: Breast cancer survivors often need support services to help them cope with the physical, emotional, and financial challenges of the disease. Legislation should provide funding for these services, including support groups, counseling, and financial counseling.
I urge you to prioritize breast cancer legislation in the upcoming session of Congress. Breast cancer affects millions of women and their families, and we must do everything we can to reduce the burden of this disease. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
